The Major Hurricane's History
Helene was the most powerful storm to hit the U.S. in 2024. It caused 20 in. storm surges with Sustained Winds of 140 MPH and Wind Gusts of 160 MPH. It made landfall in Florida beginning at 9 PM Central Daylight Time. The storm killed 230 people at least, and Helene will probably be a retired hurricane name. The storm reached CATEGORY 4 MAJOR HURRICANE strength.
