2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season - History
This season was somewhat calm. There were thirteen tropical cyclones, 6 less than last season. Only 1 hurricane and 2 tropical storms made landfall. This season consisted of 4 MAJOR hurricanes, which is about 1 above the average season, and was predicted. The season had an average damage cost of $6.555 billion. This was the first season in 10 years that a hurricane NEVER made landfall in the U.S., though a Tropical Storm did.
One record breaking storm defined the severity of this season:
Tropical Cyclone Melissa (TC13) made landfall in Jamaica and Cuba late October 2025. It reached record low pressures of 26.34 inches, recorded a 252 mph wind gust, and was the 3rd Strongest Hurricane on Record. It devastated the island of Jamaica, causing widespread catastrophic damage, beyond severe winds, and torrential rainfall with amounts reaching 30-40 inches as it made landfall as a Category 5 Catastrophic Hurricane. This storm was the last of the 2025 season, ending the season with a strong finale.
Other notable storms of this season:
Tropical Cyclone Erin (TC5) became a Category 5 Catastrophic Hurricane, though it never made landfall (as most storms this season didn't). Winds maxed at 160 MPH, and brought heavy rain and coastal flooding to the east coast as it neared close by.
Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle (TC7) forms a little while later and maxes as a Category 4 Major Hurricane. She made no landfall. Some impacts were made to Bermuda as the storm passed nearby. Winds maxed at 140 MPH.
Tropical Cyclone Humberto became a Category 5 Catastrophic Hurricane. Humberto had undergone a rare weather event where he and another Tropical Cyclone named Imelda had gone through the Fujiwhara effect. This is where two cyclones orbit, or tango, around each other and combine into a larger system. Though you would think Humberto would win, Tropical Cyclone Imelda absorbed Humberto and became a Category 2 Hurricane over the North Atlantic as the two systems pulled away from the east coast.
As we had hope last season, the winds had calmed and brought a nice breeze to this 2025 Hurricane Season. NO hurricanes hit the U.S. this year. Though, one tropical storm did. Not good, but not nearly as bad as 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
